Our Story

The Dilemma in Our Culture

Ecclesiastes 3:1-3 reminds us, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die…A time to kill, and a time to heal…”

Each January we are reminded of this, as the Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is observed by various churches and organizations across America. As you likely know, this is the month in which the infamous Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions were passed. These ultimately allowed, through the highest court in the land, abortion on demand. Since that death sentence has been passed on the unborn, 1,000,000 – 1,500,000 babies have been killed each successive year according to a March 25, 2024 article at www.PewResearch.org "What the data says about abortion in the U.S."

Although these SCOTUS decisions were overturned June 24, 2022, abortion was not outlawed by the United States but merely returned the decision to the individual states. The latest update can be encapsulated in a portion of this AP article by Todd Richmond on July 2, 2025.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court’s liberal majority struck down the state’s 176-year-old abortion ban on Wednesday, ruling 4-3 that it was superseded by newer state laws regulating the procedure, including statutes that criminalize abortions only after a fetus can survive outside the womb.

The ruling came as no surprise given that liberal justices control the court. One of them went so far as to promise to uphold abortion rights during her campaign two years ago, and they blasted the ban during oral arguments in November.

“Put bluntly, our court has no business usurping the role of the legislature, inventing legal theories on the fly in order to make four justices’ personal preference the law,” Ziegler said.

Heather Weininger, executive director of Wisconsin Right to Life, called the ruling “deeply disappointing.” She said that the liberals failed to point to any statute that explicitly repealed the 1849 ban.

“To assert that a repeal is implied is to legislate from the bench,” she said.

Legislating from the bench has become a common practice in our nation, and Wisconsin is not immune. All lives matter! Your vote counts! Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin is actively seeking to expand abortion by challenging the state’s remaining abortion restrictions. We need to actively fight against this afront to life by voting for those who respect and protect life.

Often, abortions are obtained for such ludicrous reasoning as the interference with college, careers, or even family vacation! Children are often recognized as a curse or a hindrance that can be brutally discarded, instead of the blessing God intended them to be.

The Divine Author of Life

Life, however, is very precious to God. He has absolute control over every realm of it. Solomon speaks of “…a time to be born and a time to die…” In the physical realm, we find that He is actively involved in the creation of life at conception, cf. Job 10:8, Ps. 139:13-16. He also has sovereignty in determining the time of death! Job recognized this in Job 14:5, “seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass.”  In short, when one’s purposes in life are completed, there will be a departure from this earthly realm. Thus, His sovereignty reaches over every aspect of life, “from the womb to the tomb.”  He alone, as the Author and Sustainer of life, has the sole right to determine the time of death. He has infinite wisdom, strength, and presence to carry out His plan His way!

The Demonstration for Life

Man has elevated his own significance and interfered in this process of life and death. It is clear from his perspective that he has the self-appointed right to replace God when it comes to these issues, and his “supremacy” over life and death seems to be escalating.

It was because of this philosophy and the deathly results that come from it, that churches and other concerned citizens recognized the need for involvement with pro-life issues. Several worthy groups within evangelicalism and in the secular realm were established to promote the protection and sanctity of life.

However, many churches did not want any direct involvement. Often within the existing pro-life organizations, there were views beliefs, or practices that did not seem to be consistent with fundamental Biblical teaching, and many were uncomfortable and hesitant to support them.

The Development of the Center

Recognizing the need for involvement, several independent Baptist pastors, along with the people from their churches, held a meeting at Calvary Baptist church in Menomonee Falls, WI, in 1992 to discuss the possibility of starting a crisis pregnancy center. There could be direct involvement with pro-life issues without compromising doctrinal convictions if the center would be governed and staffed by independent Baptist churches.

The goal was to develop a pro-life ministry that emphasized the gospel of Jesus Christ, had an evangelistic fervor, and would provide a tangible means for Baptist churches to minister in a way that would not compromise their doctrines or convictions. At that meeting, a seed was sown.

With the help of the national Baptists for Life and Thorin Anderson, director of Baptists for Life of Minnesota, the process began. Through successive meetings, a board was formed, and the process of starting a center was underway. The board and several committees worked long and hard for many weeks on various projects including the work on drafting a constitution, incorporation status, doing community surveys, searching for a director, and finding a facility with a good location within a given expense range. Through much prayer and hard work, God blessed, and the Alpha Women’s Center was born.

The ministry at AWC is focused on Jesus Christ and the Gospel. The counselors are burdened for lost people. Hundreds of ladies have trusted the Lord as Savior, and many have chosen life for their babies instead of death. In addition, many husbands, boyfriends, and children have heard the Gospel and have professed faith in Jesus Christ. Each new believer is referred to a local Baptist church. “A time to heal” is replacing “a time to kill” through the Alpha Women’s Center’s ministry.

Determination to Persevere

Date of Birth:  April 20th, 1993 (date of incorporation/inception)

Alpha Women's Center first location was 5311 W. North Avenue, later moving to its current location in 2003.  Although the building at 4820 W. Lisbon Avenue was purchased on June 6, property improvements needed to be made.  We have been open at this location since August 2003.

Celebrating 32 years and over 16,100 clients later, we continue to be salt and light in Milwaukee. Your continued prayer, material, and financial support make it possible to persevere.
